Steve Coons, Wrightsville
My firefighter/paramedic career was inspired by the television show Emergency. It all began on March 4, 1980 when I joined the Wrightsville VFD at the age of 16. I attended several training classes throughout the years and was certified as an EMT in 1982. I was one of the first EMT's in the dept. I became Chief at the age of 24 and have continued in that position for the past 25 years. In 1999 I completed the paramedic program and I am currently employed at Corry Ambulance service as a paramedic.
It is very rewarding when you have the opportunity to help people in need and that is the reason I have continued with this career for more than 34 years.
